| In 1991, Michael was recognized with an "Award of Merit"
by the California Department of Rehabilitation. This award was given
to Michael in recognition of outstanding achievement in vocational
rehabilitation. In 1992, Michael received an award for "Outstanding
Achievement by a Rehabilitant" from the California Rehabilitation
Association - South, a branch of the prestigious National Rehabilitation
Association. This award was also in recognition of his progress in
obtaining education and employment after becoming disabled.
In addition to sharing his personal experiences by speaking at
local schools and with community service groups, Michael has had
the opportunity to speak, in person and through media interviews,
as an advocate of disability issues and as an expert on the Americans
with Disabilities Act.
Most recently, Michael was featured by the Los Angeles Times in
its "Local Hero" column. This
article, which appeared in March of 1996, highlighted Michael's
law practice as a disabled attorney advocating for the rights of
clients who sometimes themselves have disabilities.
